 ID’ing New Equipment

Question, I’ve recently purchased some new equipment and I’d like to mark it so that it doesn’t ’disappear’ on me. (I know I can trust the people I dive with, it’s the neighbors I don’t trust) Namely, I have a brand-new tank and a regulator that have no identifying marks. I know, I know, record the serial numbers. I’ve done that, but I would like something that will prevent mix-ups as well. My brother suggested stamping my name in the tank with some letter punches (it’s a steel tank), but I’d be worried about what would happen to the finish. So, anyone have any suggestions? Any interesting techniques you’d care to share?

I painted my name on the boot. A friend of mine marked his initials directly on the steel near the top with a special marker.

You could stamp your name in it, like you said, but make sure you paint over it so the metal isn’t exposed to the environment, just like they do with the hydrotest dates.

For the tank you can purchase 2" reflective letters and attach your initials to the side of the tank from the bottom up. If it’s an AL tank you can use stencils to paint your initials on the bottom of the tank. As for your other gear you can get a white paint marker pen and use it to put your initials on all of your gear...regs included.
