Researchers have identified a new species of “walking” shark, Hemiscyllium halmahera,
ambling around the waters of western Indonesia. As Natali Anderson at Sci-News.com
explains, “Rather than swim, these slender-bodied sharks ‘walk’ by wriggling their
bodies and pushing with their pectoral and pelvic fins.”
Mark Erdmann at Wedaresort captured footage of one of these “walking” sharks out
on a stroll. The following video has no sound, so might we suggest a soundtrack
to accompany the clip? Perhaps Tiny Tim’s “Tiptoe Through The Tulips.”
