While diving between helping with a class I stumbled over this piece of concrete. I retrieved a lift bag and recovered this cool chunk of history, now I need to know what it was used for. Some of the top is missing but "Feb 23 1904". The piece is shaped so as to fit together with others "combustion, Troy NY," are all clear. What ever it is I know it is old and has been resting at the bottom of the lake for sometime.

divingbear - 9/26/2013 10:41 AM Thank you for the info, it must have been quite large as the stone is aprox 30" tall & 8" wide I have one more picture of words saying steel mixture. I posted it the other day. I placed many calls to The historic society but they do not return my calls. Thank you again

Nitediver - 9/26/2013 9:22 AM This is a manufacturer’s identification stone, much like a building cornerstone used in old stone buildings. Normally it was center on the firebox of a coal oil burner or coal bin depending on usage. As it was from 1904 most likely it was a coal burner or bin. Could have come from a house that was torn down or leveled. I am not familiar with the company McL&H if you have more markings let me know I can research it out for you.

There is a button in the text editor toolbar that lets you insert images. You just need the image URL. So after you upload a photo to DiveBuddy, right click the image to get the image URL OR you can just insert a hyperlink to the photo page itself.

OUBobcat - 9/23/2013 4:46 PM I would contact a historian from the Troy area. Looks like the company name is MCL&H Company...4th line down. I did a quick google search on that company and came up with nothing. None the less still very interesting. Could the 2nd line possibly say Danger Arch? I see the ER ARCH and what could possibly be a G in front of the ER? divingbear - 9/24/2013 3:53 AM No G, but I spent several days searching the Internet, and patt # and found nothing. I am thinking it is some kind of liner for a boilers fire box but the boiler would have to be huge.
