It is with great sadness that I am informing Dive Buddy that we lost one of our members over the weekend; Clark Fletcher (fletch944t). He had gone missing Saturday morning, October 7, while diving with 3 friends and a dive master on the Cooper River. His body was found today. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.

I had gotten to know Clark somewhat and had dived with him a couple of times, last time just a month ago. He had told me about his upcoming trip to Cooper and was excited about it. And although we were acquantances more so than close friends, his death is leaving a void in my life.

My condolences to his family and friends.

From what information I’ve gotten, and this is by no means official, from preliminary autopsy reports he suffered a heart attack while diving and there was no water in his lungs. The only thing amiss about his equipment was he was found without his mask on, but that is understandable in a strong current, which by all accoutns I’ve seen was very strong this past weekend.

When or if I find out anything more, I’ll post it here.

so sad i believe divers should stay in touch with there primary Physician for exams and health issues that may be there they don’t know about I use the local YMCA pool to test my heart out by swimming hard and long combined with speed with my fins, mask and snorkel if you can’t do that for at least 40 minutes without stopping you need to get your heart checked out doing that is like a stress test but with a life guard present and if you cant do that without heart issues then you cant do it in the deep especially not a river with moving current

Sorry to hear that.
The Cooper River is on my list for artifact and Meg tooth diving. I’m waiting until I’m comfortable with night diving before I even attempt it, just because of the similar low viz conditions.
