I’m in the process of getting certified and so far I only own a mask, snorkel, fins, boots, and weight belt. I am hoping that people more experienced than me can suggest the equipment I’ll need as well as the brand names and models that they prefer or like the best.

scubaclay - 5/08/2009 7:07 PM First thing you need to do is do your home work and see what equipment suits your needs, then ask other divers, about their equipment. After you have done this you should try different equipment to see how it works. When you feel comfortable, make your decision, based on experience, expense and your need.

csemenko - 5/08/2009 1:11 PM I’ve had good experiences with ScubaPro for regulators (various models MK17 1st stage X650 2nd, and several of their piston models). Their BCDs the Glideplus (if you like the jacket style) or Knighthawk/Ladyhawk (for Back Inflate). I currently own a Zeagle Stilleto BCD (back inflate) and I really like it. I currently dive a Poseidon X-Stream regulator. For lower costs I like the Mares/Dacor regulators (their viper model). I’ve owned a Mares Metal and had no issues with it. I’ve had more equipment than one person should in three years...but I couldn’t find a try before you buy place to try it all out, so I just kept buying it and then giving my old stuff to my family and friends as gifts or selling it. I am a fan of the Uwatec Galileo Sol and the Aladdin for computers. Good luck

ArchimedesPrinciple - 5/08/2009 1:09 PM   There is a lot of good name brand equipment on the market today. The main question you need to ask yourself is how much are you willing to spend? Keep in mind that you will be purchasing life sustaining equipment. So spend as much as you can afford. Remember, it does not all have to be purchased at one time. My personal gear consist of a Zeagle BC, Aqua Lung regulator, Atomic SS1 alternate and Sunto computer console Take your time, research, try things on and try them out before you buy
