DiveBuddy.com, the world’s largest online social network designed exclusively for scuba divers, will be the first website ever to be hosted underwater. Yes you heard that right, our webserver will be underwater! We have researched equipment and networking infrastructure and within a few weeks, everything will be hosted underwater. Except for a few cables breaching the surface to provide power, video/input devices and Internet connectivity, all computer and networking equipment will be under 18" of water in a controlled indoor environment.
The attached photo illustrates the type of hardware we plan to use. Not only is a water proof case required, but liquid cooling and other high tech devices need to be used to make this a reality.
You will not notice any changes to DiveBuddy.com, except everything you see on the website will be served by a computer that is entirely underwater somewhere. How fitting for scuba diving social network :) All of our members would rather be underwater, I figured our web server would to.
More details will be provided later. Dive safe and dive often!
