My wife and I last weekend traveled to Beaufort, NC and I dove the U-352 (a German U-boat sunk by the USCG in 1942) over a two-day period with
Discovery Diving. If you don’t know about Beaufort or Discovery as a diver you should. Both are truly hidden treasures of the SOBX.
Discovery now owns its own hotel called the
Beaufort Harbor Suite, which is within walking distance to the dive shop. The rooms have my four-star rating and even come with a kitchenette. The beds are soft, comfortable and just what every diver needs to rest after a great day of dives. I simply left my hotel room and walked to the shop to check-in and catch my boat which is located in the docks resting behind the dive shop’s US70 location.
The staff is first rate and truly takes care of all your needs and my wife even joined me on Saturday as a "bubble watcher" and had a great time on the top deck of the Sea Quest vessel, simply enjoying the rays.
If you want a great dive experience and enjoyable stay book yourself with Discovery. After a day of diving, you can even walk from the hotel and enjoy the afternoon and nightlife of the Beaufort waterfront. There are a number of great restaurants on the waterfront. My suggestion would be to try a place called the "Ribeye."
If you are located anywhere on the Eastern seaboard, from Philadelphia to Richmond, the drive is worth it.
So get wet, enjoy, and dive the SOBX with Discovery.
