Diving after knee replacement
scubaclay - 6/25/2011 12:20 PM
Back in March 2011 I had a complete knee replacement, I just want to put out a few thoughts on diving after knee replacement. First let me state that I am NOT the typical person when it comes to recovery. I am a very stubern little Irishman, I do Not sit around well. Back in January I was advised by my Orthopedic surgen, that I needed to have both knees replaced. This fact I was painfully aware of, having suffered with pain for more than 39 years. So in January I was advised that I was finally O...
Fun times

I have been teaching the boy scouts to dive so that they can get their scuba merit badges. I did not know what to expect from these young men when I first started. But the student I had last week was absolutely fantastic. Robert was a very polite young man that had a big smile on his face after every dive including those in the pool. This week I have 3 young men from upstate New York, again very polite young people and great students. I don’t know who is having more fun me or the students. Today...
New Instructor

A very heart felt congrats goes out to Brion (gypsydiver) for taking and passing his IE. I know he had to work very hard for z full week in the IDC, and then, take the exams. If you are not aware of the process, the IDC is a week long process of exams and pool sessions, along with open water classes. Brion has kept us all very amused with his daily blog about the process. The course and the exam are no small feat to be sure, passing the exam is very difficult. Again a very heart felt congrats to...

What to stduents want???
scubaclay - 11/20/2008 12:44 PM
Now to follow up on my eariler Blog "No Yelling allowed" lets find out what students want in an instructor. I feel that prospective students want an instructor that not only knows how to dive but knows how to teach it to people. We all have our own way of instruction, but for the most part we also have common ways of teaching. 1. Paitence let the student make mistakes so that they can self correct. 2. Kindness understand the students concerns for the course and certain skills. 3. Flexability hel...
No yelling allowed
scubaclay - 11/16/2008 12:48 PM
I was recently on another dive site that had an interesting discussion going. " Is it alright to yell at students" . I found the discussion very interesting because of the responses that were mad available to me. I was not allowed to take part in the discussion because I was not a member. So lets start our oun discussion. Is it alright to yell at students that asre not following instructions??? For my part it only acceptable to yell at students if there is a safety issue at hand. The extent of t...
Underwater Metal

Congrats to Foxy Roxy for having her Distinctive Speciality ( Underwater Metal Detecting ) approved by PADI. Roxanne worked hard for quite a while writting the specialty and re writing it. Any one who has ever written a Distinctive Specialty knows that it is a long hard project to take on, including working, taking care of Clay and everything else that she does. If anyone is interested in this specialty contact FoxyRoxy at divebuddy.com. Once again congrats to Roxanne. Love you Clay...
