SMACO S400, An Alternate Air Source? SMACO S400, An Alternate Air Source?
scubadivingnomad - 3/14/2023 6:36 AM
SMACO S400, Will It Be Your Alternate Air Source? You may be wondering how I came about reviewing the SMACO S400. Life has some interesting twists at times. As the end of the year approached, I started to plan what type of vacation I wanted to take in 2023. One of the trips I decided on was a scuba diving liveaboard. Looking over the conditions of the trip, I saw they allowed solo diving for properly qualified divers. Therefore, I added getting certified as a solo diver to my goals for the year....

Advice to keep your diving gear in top shape Advice to keep your diving gear in top shape
smilingseahorse - 7/27/2020 4:09 AM
Once you invest in dive gear, you want it to last as long as possible. To do this, a vigilant maintenance ritual is essential! Here are some recommended steps: 1. Rinse it immediately after use This is the first very important step. After a dive, salt or chlorine could leave some harmful residues on your gear. Rinse it in FRESH water as soon as you dismantle your kit to clear the dirt and reduce the risk of corrosion. 2. Dry it properly away from the sun Thoroughly dry out your gear after a day’...

Jay0419 - 4/08/2020 11:32 AM
So, I think I’ve boiled down my first BCD to 2 options, Cressi Scorpion or the Hog Pro. I’m leaning toward HOG but not 100% sure. Factors I’ve been considering is: Price point (about $400 for either) Lift: Scorpion:33.7lbs, HOG:48lbs Max (pocket) weight: Scorpion:20, HOG:30(more with accessory pockets) Ok for cold water diving Ok for travel/warm water diving Anyone have actual experience with either and can recommend one over the other? Thanks!...
IMO 2020: A Step towards the greener future
Thewebsurfer - 6/25/2019 1:47 AM
IMO 2020: A Step towards the greener future The environmental ecosystem is decreasing year by year. The efforts towards environmental changes were necessary for this serious environmental situation to deal with climate change and environmental degradation. It could be seen that marine pollution accounts for a huge number of pollution coming from vessels due to active sea trade activities. The IMO 2020 is a step taken by the International Maritime Organisation to tackle the harmful effects of pol...
The First Drysuit – What to look for when buying a drysuit The First Drysuit – What to look for when buying a drysuit
Kat3rina - 6/08/2019 5:01 PM
What to look for to make sure you get the right drysuit when shopping for your first. Most people who start diving start out in a wetsuit. There are a number of perfectly good reasons for this. First off, most people learn how to dive in the warm seasons, or in areas that offer warm water year-round, making a wetsuit the most logical choice. They’re also cheaper than drysuits and as rental equipment sees a lot of wear and tear, this is an important factor for dive centers. And because they’re mo...
The Magic Wetsuit The Magic Wetsuit

So the competition is pretty steep in the fish world....all these animals under the water, eat or be eaten and then you show up, wanting to take home some fillets for some fish tacos or some fresh ceviche. Well move over Mr. Spearo, you’ve got to get in line. I am a fish and everyone is trying to eat me. Sharks, rays, fish bigger than me, dolphins. You are going to have some serious skills if you are going to catch me. I will bolt at the drop of a hat. If I moved to Hawaii to retire I wouldn’t l...

IrDA No longer works with Windows 10
nitroxjim - 10/14/2015 7:58 PM
If you love using your dive computer, you will not be able to transfer your dive logs using the IrDA interface on Windows 10. Windows has dropped the IrDA stack. I am not sure if they will correct this problem. Even the distributors of your IrDA does not have a solution for this. The best option is to uninstall Windows 10 and run a older version....

Buying a Used Scuba Tank or Cylinder (eBay, Craigslist, Garage Sale) Buying a Used Scuba Tank or Cylinder (eBay, Craigslist, Garage Sale)
Greg - 7/15/2014 3:16 PM
When buying a used scuba tank (aka: cylinder or bottle)...whether online from eBay or Craigslist, or from a Garage Sale or Swap Meet/Flea Market...be sure to consider the following: Does the air tank need a hydro? Check out the markings on the scuba tank to determine if the most recent hydrostatic pressure test date is within the last 5 years. You are taking a risk in buying a tank that needs hydro. Consider the cost of a hydro inspection ($25-$40) when negotiating the purchase price. Ask the se...
Equipment Review: Aqua Lung Apeks Black Ice BCD
Scubablog - 11/05/2013 12:43 AM
Although it is quite similar to the Axiom in looks, and does share the “Wrapture” harness system. In contrast, the Apeks Black Ice does not focus as much on acoomodating the entry level diver; whereas the Axiom focuses on a wrap-around jacket design. The Apeks Black Ice focuses heavily on versatility, of course not foregoing […] The post Equipment Review: Aqua Lung Apeks Black Ice BCD appeared first on Scuba-Blog.com....

Dive Professionals Be Aware [Beware!] Part II So, you’ve been served with a Wrongful Death Lawsuit, what do you do now? [I’m not offering ANY legal advice here, I’m just continuing on with my story and personal experience] Of course the first call you make is to your certification agency, who route you to their legal department, and since they were also named in the suit, you’re all on the same legal team for this case. They notify the insurance company, who investigate the incident to determine...
Hammer & Chisel Set for Scuba Diving Hammer & Chisel Set for Scuba Diving
Greg - 5/10/2013 10:06 AM
I have never seen a hammer/chisel combo for scuba diver’s like this so I thought I’d share. I don’t think I’d ever use one underwater (unless I become a treasure hunter, archaeologist or want to bust my way out of a wreck) but it looks cool and I want one! Here is the description from the manufacture: Since it was introduced in 1992, the Diving Equipment Specialties Hammer & Chisel set has set the standard in its class, with superior features that assure you of years of corrosion-free heavy-duty...

Badger - 1/28/2013 2:36 PM
Scubapro - They are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year so the kit junkies at Aquanauts had a chance to see the new second stage G260 and very ‘Bling’ facelift Scubapro have given the MK25 and S600 regulator set. I reckon that if Puff Daddy ever started diving I think I have the set for him!! So what else is new with Scubapro regs? I have been a real fan of Scubapro since I first owned my own kit, so I was really pleased to see that the Scubapro second stage regulator range has had a sh...
