Whale shark
Video of a whale shark 35 miles off of Dauphin island. The guys from my dive shop figured it was blown off course by some of the hurricanes. It stayed around a gas rig for about 4 days, then took off....

stingrays
Ever dove with the stingrays in the Cayman Islands? Had a chance to do that during a dive trip when the water turned rough and we all voted (after getting seasick) to head to calmer waters and feed the stingrays. Not deep or gonzo diving, but hey,it was fun. One thing,tho. It is NOT cool or sexy to dive in just a bathing suit, because, as I learned, stingrays can inflict damage when they land on you looking for food. Megalodon
Shark tooth dive, Venice Beach, Fla. 2007. Pure muck diving, viz is about 10 feet on a good day, but, man,is it exciting to find a prehistoric carcharodon megalodon tooth. Sad thing is, this area is being bought up by private investors building on the water,and making it very difficult for the dive shops to find a public boat launch. The shop I dove with said by next year they may have to stop the shark tooth dives, because the only available public launch may be gone....
