Bari Reef - Bonaire

Loading...
Bari Reef is a shore accessible salt water dive site, located in Bonaire, Bonaire. This dive site has an average rating of 4.44 out of 5 from 25 scuba divers. This dive site provides bathrooms and airfills.

Bari Reef is found off the shore of the Sand Dollar Condominiums. After the tragic loss of their superb dive facility, docks, and restaurant during the Storm of ’99, they put in a temporary facility on the Southern side of their property. As of February 2001, the rebuilding is in progress. The dock has now been rebuilt (2005).

In addition to the drive-up tank fill station, there is a second fill station with 24 hour tank access right on the dive dock, along with convenient dive lockers and benches for gear set-up. Divers can enter the water to dive Bari Reef one of three ways - a giant stride off the pier, by walking down a sturdy ladder, or entering the water gradually from the small sand beach area adjacent to the pier. Gear and camera rinse tanks and showers are also on the dock.
Frogfish and sea horses are often found near the dock.

Bari’s Reef easy entry from the Delaman’s dock, about 20 feet swim and your there. Go North and the reef drops 100 feet plus and the top of the reef about 30 feet, lots to see. We also did a few night dives, but prepare to meet a few friendly Tarpons. They come you like torpedoes and about 5 feet away they turn and go right pass you.

From Sport Diver magazine; “Bari” means “barrel” in Papiamentu, the colorful local language that combines many of the disparate influences in the rich history of the ABC islands — Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao — hearkening back to the days when this spot was essentially a dump in Colonial days and later. Today it’s a rich source of beach glass, some going back three centuries; the underwater world is just as colorful, perhaps more so, given that this dive site has been documented by REEF to have more than 300 species surveyed here alone. It’s a fish playground, and the almost-friendly residents are happy for you to play along too. Not as pretty as some Bonaire reefs on first glance, this super-accessible site has tons going on even in the shallowest areas, from tiny secretary blennies to humongous midnight parrotfish and everything in between.

We saw a cute frog fish - a very ribiting experience (please groan appropriately).
