We were told by the dive shop we got fills from there was a wreck next to a small island in the lake, we never found it. The surface was warm so we jumped in without hoods or gloves and then we came to the thermocline........... This is the first thermocline I ever saw that looked solid, I thought it was the bottom! Warm above, freezing below, we returned to the boat for gloves and hood! Found a lot of freshwater clams but no wreck :(
There are several wrecks in Lake George, including the oldest intact warship in North America, the Land Tortoise radeau floating gun battery from the French and Indian War. There are also a cluster of bateaux from the same era and a turn-of-the-century launch.
