Flagpole Point - Hoodsport WA

Loading...
Flagpole Point is a shore accessible salt water dive site, located in Hoodsport, WA. This dive site has an average rating of 4.00 out of 5 from 3 scuba divers.

Flagpole Rock is a popular dive site adjacent to Mike’s Beach Resort and offers divers a dynamic reef with cloud sponges, wolf eels and giant pacific octopus.
Directions: This site is just South of Mike Beach Resort and within view of the dock. Off from Flag Pole Point you’ll want to position your boat in about 60’ of water and looking to shore you should find yourself directly out from the most Southern house right before the point ends and the land starts to curve away from the canal. Mike’s Beach Resort is located on the waters edge of Highway 101 North of Hoodsport. Taking I-5 North, take Exit 104 to Highway 101. Highway 101 then veers to the right and is marked with signs to Port Angeles.
This is the best dive in the Hood Canal. You need a key from Mike’s Beach Resort to access the road to the beach. In truth it is a much better boat dive, but I have done it from shore. Swim from the flagpole on the rock at 110 degrees until you get to 70 feet, then stay at 70 feet and swim south. You will run into the reef shortly. Octo’s, Wolf Eels, Fish, and other critters await. Cloud Sponges off the Eastern drop off and even a very deep wall for the tech people.

The house in front of the dive site is currently owned by several divers. It has two great reefs and is in a marine protected area. Take your camera because you won’t be able to describe all the beautiful stuff you’ll see. Sponges, rock fish, lin cod, GPO’s, Wolf ell’s. I dive this site regularly. It is one of my favorite.

Many years ago, I dove near and in front of the flag pole. At that time, there was a resident on shore who did not like divers at all! In fact, he would come out and give us trouble, make threats, and complain that we were diving near where he lived. Other than that, the diving was great!
