White Point (San Pedro, CA) is a shore accessible salt water dive site, located in San Pedro, CA 90731. This dive site has an average rating of 2.00 out of 5 from 2 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 31-35ft/9-11m. The average visibility is 5-10ft/2-3m.

Water entry is relatively easy in light and moderate surf. The trick here is to not Dive White Point at Low Tide because there are a ton of relatively Large, Loose Rocks that are exposed at at this time making Entry and Exit Hazardous. If you can Time your Dive to take place at or just before High Tide you’ll find this the ideal time to Dive. Enter without fins and with your BC Inflated - Wade out to Waist Level and then put on your fins. Watch for loose rocks when entering and exiting - Use Buoyancy to keep yourself "Light".
Beach Access is about as easy as it gets. This is the only Beach in the Area where you can Literally Drive Down to the Beach and unload - and not climb Stairs or Hills!
From the Parking Area walk to the Beach and enter at about the halfway Point on the Cove ("C" on the Aerial View Below). Make sure you Walk Beyond the Rocky Area Closest to the Parking Lot or You’ll find yourself Rolling on the Rocks.
Note the Access for White Point is the Same as it is for Royal Palms. When you reach the Bottom White Point is the Road to your left and Royal Palms is to your Right.


The Big Attraction here is the Warm Water Vents in the Shallows. About 50 Yards out you’ll find areas with almost no growth and a mixed White and Black Sandy Bottom. You may see "Murky Water" in these areas as well. If so, your over the vents - Try taking your Gloves off and putting them in the sand, you’ll feel the Heat - It’s pretty Cool (or is that Hot)!
Expect to see Bat Stars, Sea Cucumbers, Moray eels and lots of Nudibranchs as you venture away from the Vents. Go a little Deeper and East and you’ll run into Kelp and Rock outcrops loaded with goodies.

Rich-D-Fish - 8/10/2012 9:31 AM Rating Added: 2 The nicest feature is the fact that you can park 40 yards from where you enter the water. The bluff above is great for scouting conditions before you fork over the $5 for parking (if they are charging that day). I’ve done three dives here. The best place to enter is the sheltered inlet/cove a short walk to the South of the parking lot. Entry and exit is a little tricky because you have to walk on slippery cobble stones underwater for 20 yards or so. I admit that both my buddy and me both fell over our first time there. But I quickly learned a trick to hug the right side where I can lean on the rocks until the water is just over knee deep. I then just drop face down and snorkel out of the cove. Worked great on my second and third dives there.

A good sight to check off your local shore dive checklist. It offers a unique opportunity to see sulfur vents underwater. On this particular dive there weren’t many fish. The entry was easy with the swell coming from south west though very low tide due to the full moon. Another experience with NBTT Divers. Get out and dive with us. (http://www.nbttdiveclub.com)
