It is one of the deepest lakes in the world (5th deepest in US)

Whitetail deer, squirrels, black bears, coyotes and bobcats are known to reside in these forests

Bald Eagles, osprey, owls, hummingbirds, hawks, woodpeckers, ducks and the mountain bluebird are seen in the skies around the lake

During World War II, the south end of Lake Pend Oreille was the second largest naval training ground in the United States

The lake is still used to test large-scale submarine prototypes: the depth gives it acoustic properties similar to the open ocean, without the background noise of the ocean

McLeach - 12/05/2022 4:32 PM Rating Added: 3 Beautiful lake with visibility typically around 40ft +/- depending on season. Summer surface temps can get close to 70°f, with a crisp drop to 50° past 30ft. Cool underwater cliffs, as long as your ok with staring down into a scary black abyss. This lake is crazy deep. Winter temp is steady at 37°f and gets a couple degrees warmer at depth. Majority of lake is exclusively accessible by boat due to surrounding mountains. Not too badly surrounded by private property or inundated by boaters.
