A 70-foot cable-laying ship sunk in 1981 next to Mitch Miller’s Reef, the Doc Poulson is a picturesque shallow dive great for beginners and second tanks. Intact and safe to penetrate, the wreck is encrusted with tiny patches of brain corals, sea fans and sea rods and tended by a crew of slippery dick wrasse, parrotfish and angelfish. Also inside is a shy green moray eel. Big grouper and schooling jacks split their time between the wreck and the surrounding reef when they aren’t buzzing the garden eels on the sand flat.
From Sport Diver Magazine;
This 70-foot Japanese cable-laying ship is a shallow dive, and the boat’s years on the bottom have provided an incredible coat of hard and soft corals. The cable winches are still intact on Doc Paulson’s decks, and the holds and wheelhouse make for safe and easy exploration. Pair that with Grand cayman’s unparalleled visibility, and underwater photographers would be hardpressed to find a better backdrop, with schools of jacks and snapper milling about the superstructure.
