Lover’s Point is a shore accessible salt water dive site, located in Monterey, CA. This dive site has an average rating of 3.45 out of 5 from 31 scuba divers.

Lover’s Point is the perfect park for divers and non-divers. The small cove above is great for kids, and the cove just beyond in the background is better suited to divers. There are restrictions to diving: you can only dive April to September, weekday mornings before 11:30. Check with a local dive shop for the current restrictions they may change from time to time.
In Monterey, heading West on Del Monte, bear right onto Lighthouse Ave, then bear right onto Foam St. Make a right onto David Ave, then a left onto Ocean View Blvd. After you pass the Park on your right, bear right and continue toward the ocean to drop off your gear.
This site seems understandably popular with picnickers, swimmers, kayakers, and divers. Regulations are posted on signs, and diving is conducted to the right of a pyramid-shaped marker, presumably to provide separation for dive ops. Restrooms and food concessions are close at hand. Local divers were helpful with information. The site offers ease of entry and egress. My son (Daniel) and I arrived at slack ebb, entered the water and noted the viz at 18-22 feet. Kelp was easily negotiated. We wore 6.5mm wetsuits and the water was warmer than I’d anticipated. The bottom appears to slope very gradually. Our dive was uncomplicated and we enjoyed a pleasant dive in relatively shallow water (
When the surf is down, the entry is not to bad. Unfortunately, when we dove this site nearly all the kelp was dead do to a rare October (and all summer) heat wave. The water temperature was 65-67 degrees! It easy to see that when the kelp is healthy this is a fantastic dive site. This dive was special to me because I proposed to my girlfriend Shelley during the dive. We headed out and I presented a pre-made laminated sign asking if she would marry me. Luckily, she said yes and I didn’t have to resort to plan B (chumming the water with my ziplock of seal’s blood). There are many awesome large boulders down there that form a cathedral type atmosphere. A great dive!

Hi everyone, I am new here. My husband and I are both divers and planning a trip to Monterrey on June 30th weekend. i am unfortunately unable to dive since I am pregnant but my husband is interested in finding a dive buddy for Saturday morning. He wants to do at least one dive here and Lover’s point. Any suggestions or recommendations on how to find a dive buddy? Thank you!

A good site, if you can find parking. Several good entry points and a nice reef with lots of critters to look at and you don’t have to very far or deep to see things.

I went scuba diving here on 10/17/2015. Water temp: 61-65°F/16-18°C.
Dove Lovers 3 which has easy parking steps away from the entry point stairs. Beautiful sunny day with calm 61° water and good visibility. Saw the same things as my Otter Cove dive log on the same day.

Participated in the great annual fish count off Lover’s 1. Used a kayak to travel offshore. The kelp was very dense. Completed 2nd dive at Lover’s 3 with 2 buddies. Better visibility and interesting bottom structure.

This is Logged dive 1118, We met at 08:00am. Discussed local dive site and settled on Lover’s Point, Pacific Grove. We suited-up, and geared-up and headed for the stairs on the Southside side of Lover’s Point Park. Once on the beach(rocks) at high tide Barbara Davis instructed us to set our compass heading for North(0-deg). We are all in the water by 09:11am. With Barbara being the most experienced at this location I follow her across the surface to 20 feet of depth. We descend to the white sand bottom and stay-the-course. We encounter two great rock structure pinnacles on our heading. The outer pinnacle starts at 45, surrounded by Monterey White Sand and rises to within 25 feet of the surface. The pinnacles are home to a healthy kelp bed, good size Kelp Greenlings, various Snails, Nudibranchs, Kelp/Masking Crabs, an occasional Cabazon, Algae, and lots of Hermit Carbs.
On our return we encountered mild surge and waves, however, our egress was far from dry. The small waves were breaking on the rocks and we needed to exit through the whitewater and rocks. All in all a good diving day.

Very easy entry and exit. Overall a very simple and relaxing dive, a lot of sand unless you stick right along the rocky coast line. Not much to see, but might have just been unlucky.

I went scuba diving here on 10/8/2011. Average viz: 5-10ft/2-3m. Water temp: 56-60°F/13-16°C.

Good Visability. Saw lots of baby Jellyfish. Found a MadDog 2020 bottle of beer that was unopened at 27feet. Had issues with a leak in BC oring needed to call it short on dive 1.

Dive 2 all fixed and ready to try again. Gotta love a save a dive kit. At 35feet phenominal change in visability, pleanty of big fish to see and lots of crab wandering around the ocean floor.

We intended to go to Point Lobos but it was a black water dive and thick kelp. So instead we went to Lovers. Wow. OK enough with the jokes. lots of surge with big drifts. Starfish were all over the place baby abalone and shrimp in good amounts. What i found odd was an unusual amount of crayons littering the floor- just didnt make sense.
