Lana’i Lookout (Scenic Lookout) - Oahu HI

Lana’i Lookout (Scenic Lookout) is a fresh water dive site, located in Oahu, HI. This dive site has an average rating of 3.00 out of 5 from 4 scuba divers.

It is for ’extreme divers’ only. Fortunately, not too many novices find their way to this extremely challenging spot. You will make your entry by giant stride to the left of the lookout, and exit to a small rocky patch to the right. Again, an experienced guide is a must! Ask your local dive shop to talk you out of it, and if they can’t, ask them to guide you through it. The sights are well worth it.

I went scuba diving here on 11/25/2012. Average viz: 91-100ft/28-30m. Water temp: 76-80°F/24-27°C.
Gorgeous day for diving, you could actually see Lana’i and Moloka’i from the lookout. Water conditions just about perfect. Explored the caverns and wall to find honu, cowfish, he’e, and our favorite Harlequin shrimp feasting on a sea star.

The most challenging part of this dive is the hike back up the hill to get your second tank. One of the better dive locales on the island, as long as the surf is down (1-2’) intermediate divers should do just fine. You have to be in decent shape though and comfortable with your equipment. The occasional Hawaiian monk seal, turtles, and lots of fish await along the walls and caverns. Wear gloves to protect your hands on the exit. When the surf is up, the entry AND exit can be a washing machine those "extreme" divers need to power-kick through if they even attempt it. HFD rescue crews don’t like it when you dive here those days.
