Devils Lake State Park is one of Wisconsin’s most popular dive destinations and also a hiker, climber, camper and sportsman paradise. The lake is about 370 acres of clear water, surrounded by high rock formations, trees and natural flora. Although a great one day dive spot, Devils Lake State Park is your perfect choice for a weekend family trip of camping and outdoor activities. The park boasts a swimming beach, water sports, fishing, rock climbing, hiking trails, picnic areas and a host of other activities. A no motor lake, you’ll see an abundance of kayakers, windsurfers and canoes enjoying the spectacular scenery. Devils Lake is one of our favorite dive trips and one of our destinations at Seatasea for Open Water Training. Each time we visit we wish we could stay a few more days and relax. So if your going...make a weekend or more out of it. You are also located just about 10 miles from Wisconsin’s top tourist attraction - Wisconsin Dells.

Most diving takes place on the north east side of the lake by the furthest parking lot from the entrance. Divers either enter the water right from the parking lot, or you can gain more depth quicker with a short walk south along the railroad tracks. You’ll meet lots of divers diving as Devils Lake is pretty popular on the weekends, both with dive buddy groups and classes from dive centers in the area (and Seatasea too.) Divers normally stay close to the shoreline in 20ft+ of water and work their way south as the bottom is mostly sandy and the visibility the best. Another diving area is the South West side of the lake, just off of the road to the south side entrance. There are parking spots just along the road and the access is very easy, however the further you dive out from the shore..the more muddier it gets.

I went scuba diving here on 5/3/2020. Average viz: 5-10ft/2-3m. Water temp: 61-65°F/16-18°C.
Busy Lake today. Had to dive off South Shore Beach due to no parking along road and North side was at capacity. Not the best area to dive ... sand out to muck. Found a canoe paddle.

Fun Lake to Dive. Either South Shore from Road, or North Shore off beach. Neat rock formations along shore. Usually a lot of fish. Good Viz.

I went scuba diving here on 7/31/2019. Average viz: 5-10ft/2-3m. Water temp: 71-75°F/22-24°C.
Peak performance buoyancy training dive for AOW. With about 6 people training and 6 people on a fun dive, the bottom got stirred up pretty quickly. Visibility got down to under 5 feet near the end of the dive. I will have to try this place on a quiet day and see if the visibility is better. There are some very friendly large-mouth bass (probably looking for any handouts).

Enter at the southwest shore or northeast shore. Fair amount of fish. Thermocline usually around 25’ in the summer. Vis 6-20’. Wanna go? Send me a message!

I have dove here countless times as I lived about 20 minutes away. The shore provides some nice rock formations dropping off fairly quickly. This makes it quite attractive to fishermen and swimmers so watch for lines and kids jumping in off the rocks. the bottom is sandy once you get out 50 feet from shore and doesn’t provide much to look at. Often I was drug there to dive so my regular dive buddy could test out some new equipment or gadget so I found it is a place to entertain yourself or work on your diving skills; plenty of rocks to move around with a lift bag or work on your buoyancy to avoid kicking up silt.

A dive flag is required and the entrance fee for parking is $10. Fortunately a full service PADI dive shop, 3 Little Devils, is a mile away from the lake.
