Haigh Quarry - Kankakee IL

Loading...
Haigh Quarry is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located at 2738 E 2000 North Rd, Kankakee, IL 60901. This dive site has an average rating of 3.81 out of 5 from 85 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 81-90ft/25-27m. The average visibility is 16-20ft/5-6m. This dive site provides bathrooms and airfills. Training platforms are available.

Deemed the "Caribbean of the Midwest." This quarry is set up just for divers (No boating or fishing allowed).

A few things to see include: Flamingo - a sunken houseboat / LARC-V - Lighter, Amphibious Resupply, Cargo Vehicle / old USMC dump truck / an original rock crusher / original rock drill / circa 50’s fire truck / a bread truck / Tricycle Graveyard / swim through tube / Artifact Park comprised of the Quake Zone, Akrotori Wreck, and Anchor Alley / and several other sunken treasures. Many are marked by buoys. Not especially great vis, (anywhere from 5-30ft but good for the Midwest) averaging around 15ft. Great spot for training b/c of the many underwater platforms, two floating docks, rinse station, onsite dive center, and an easy beach entry. Also has a "deep hole", which at 80’ is suitable for A.O.W. deep training dives. Tons of freshwater game fish; Blue Gill, and some big ones, too!

Update: As of 2015 the Food Hut is closed until new operators are willing to take it over. The main office has some minimal snacks available. Otherwise, there is plenty of eating along the main drag of Rt 50. Check out Oliver’s Bar & Grill at the Quality Inn & Suites.

Sooo, my son lost a dive weight of the closer dock. We looked for it for about 45 minutes but the muck on the bottom gets pretty bad. We did not look at any of the actual stuff but the setup area and weather was great. Dive shope only has air fills, no nitrox. Temp got down to 43 F and Vis was around 10 ft.

Fun place to dive. Tina has a nice setup that has lots of picnic tables, full gear rental and air fills. Great atmosphere top side.

The diving is varied, half of the quarry is about 55 ft and the other half is around 25. It can be very cold on the deeper side so make sure you have a 7 mil and hood. There is also a deep hole that hits 80 ft but I rarely go because it’s too darn cold for me. Lots of interesting things to see underwater

I love this place. It is my homey comfy dive spot where I got my open water and advanced open water certs - the blue gill are abundant, the bass are fun for a night dive, and the paddlefish are always something to look forward to - the facility is great and the people there are wonderful. The light is always changing in the quarry and you never know what to expect.

I am looking for someone to dive Haigh with me sometime before the end of the season. I have been certified since 2010 and have logged a lot of dives at Haigh with my cousin but she is off to college now, so I am alone with no one to dive with. It has been a few years since I was able to dive due to a new job, relationship, baby, and wedding; so I need someone to go easy on me. I am thinking 9/20

Looking for a Dive Site...
I have a student that needs to finish some of his rescue scenarios so he can start DM over the winter.
Since Haigh and Pearl are both closed I am looking for a location that we can use to finish class up. does not need to have anything fun to look at.

Any help would be appreciated.
