Mammoth Lake is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located at 330 North Dixie Drive, Lake Jackson, TX 77566. This dive site has an average rating of 3.68 out of 5 from 41 scuba divers. Mammoth Lake Scuba is a full service dive shop located on one of the most unique inland dive locations in Texas. A former archeological dig site, now a Texas Historical landmark, Mammoth Lake Scuba was made to be ’the’ inland diving attraction on the Texas Gulf Coast. So come visit Mammoth Lake Scuba - and dive into history!

Not too far from Houston and facilities are good. Lots of picnic tables with covers. Nice entry docks. Tons of stuff to see underwater including a fire truck, church steeple, tire pit, gorilla and more.

Nice place, friendly staff. The visibility was low due to a lot of algae. Will go back when the temperature drops and algae is gone.

I’m happy to report that Mammoth Lake is open again - since earlier this Summer (2020). New management. Air fill station and gear rental on site. mammothlaketexas.com

Called Maximum Scuba to find out if the lake was closed, because i saw that it was on google. Was told that the lake is now permanently closed to Divers. However, I don’t know if you would be able to get into the lake even though it is closed, I haven’t been there in around a year.

We have dove there 3 times visibility was 8-10’. Not sure whats going on there now last 2 times we have tried to go its been closed. Called they said they were moving shop over into corner, but for now would be open winter hours on weekends only and would be at the first dock........Nope. Would love to know whats going on there is a good place to get some fun dives in visibility not good but lots of great things to see and all are connected by cables. There is no fishing here so Bass and Bluegills are Extremely Friendly.

Murky water but lots of UW stuff to explore. There are many, many lines connecting the attractions. The way to do it is find an attraction buoy and descend. Then follow the lines from attraction to attraction. You won’t get lost due to the low vis if you stick to the lines and you can spend the entire dive beneath the water instead of surfacing and looking for the next thing to explore. I found the trolley, truck trailers, C-130, crane/shark cage, several platforms, and other stuff I’m not sure what it even was. The perch were aggressive here. They were nipping at my legs while I was dangling my fins off the dock while I was putting my fins on. The C-130 was awesome. It’s such a large plane I spent 40 minutes exploring it. I loved diving here. It was worth it coming all the way from DFW.

This is by far the best developed dive park in Texas. I with it was closer to me. I see there could be more fun dives here if I could find someone to car pool with. The trick is don’t worry about the vis. Playing the game of follow the line and try to figure out what is at the end of it is fun. With the number of sunken stuff that would keep me busy for many dives. Lots of mud holes have problems with vis at least seasonally or due to large crowds stirring up the silt. No one else bothers to lay so many lines between sites. You can do it by compass but that’s so inaccurate and down right boring to execute. Other dive parks should lay lines like Mammoth. Also being in the middle of a city instead of some remote area is great. You have hotels, shops, and restaurants close by. Everything you could need is there. Even better you have a good restaurant right next door. Dive park food sucks unless you go to the trouble of bringing a camp kitchen with you. What a pain in the butt that is. And every other park makes you do that. I wish I did my OW there so I could have a good meal for lunch instead of a cold sandwich and chips. Also there’s plenty of room on the surface. Some parks literally run out of places to park. And the shaded spots are either reserved for the special people (and I’m not special to them) or taken by someone who beat you there and you have to bake in the sun all day. Mammoth has more shaded spots than all the other Texas parks combined. It was also handy to hav

(DB.com truncated my comment. I wriet too much.) It was also handy to have a full service dive shop right on the property. So if you forget, lose, or break any equipment you can get it fixed, but a new one, or rent a replacement immediately. The water was the warmest of any park I’ve been to. It was nice to be able to do an 89 minute dive in a 2.5mm shorty and not be driven out by cold. A few members or the Diving Rebels have expressed interest in going back. The only question I have is what time of year would the visibility most likely be better?

Just making sure everyone’s heard. Maximum Scuba has Re-Opened the shop on the lake. Full service rentals and fills. Great owner and staff. Head on down and hit the lake.

I took my Advanced Open Water diving Certification here! I went through Sugarland Scuba Center. It was a blast. I had so much fun. Tons of "wrecks" and objects in the water. So far this is the best scuba park I have ever been to. If you are in Texas and get the chance. You should totally go here!

Visibility leaves a lot to be desired, but I’m under water. That’s the key for perfect day for me. Lots to see and if all the tag lines are in place, it makes for a great diving experience even it 3’ visibility. I’m planning on going down Saturday, October 5, 2013 to get in a couple of dives. Will probably join Maximum, but I am looking for a buddy to make the dive.
