Parrots Mission is a boat accessible salt water dive site, located in Bermuda. The maximum depth is 61-70ft/19-21m. The average visibility is 91-100ft/28-30m.
Parrots Mission on the outer fringes of the reef almost due North of Blue Hole at Eastern Blue Cut is one of the few places known where vast quantities of Parrot Fish will congregate. Little is known about this behaviour.
Whether this is a mating ritual or a hunting manoeuvre is all speculation the only thing that is known for sure if that the Parrot Fish are almost certainly on a mission.
A deep sandy patch at about 70 feet with long sandy channels leading off at a variety of angels marks this Blue Water Divers exclusive site. Typically an anchor drop inn one of the sand channels will tail the boat directly over this vast sandy hole. It’s very much a lottery as to the presence of the Parrot Fish, typically they do not disappoint although early Spring is the best time to almost be able to guarantee a show.
Dropping below the boat and waiting for a few minutes is the best idea. Wait and see, if nothing happens then head off and circumnavigate the vast sandy. The reef at the edges has formed huge over hangs. Climb above the reef at around 40 feet and see masses of soft corals and gorgonian blow in the "wind". Some of the sandy channels can lead off in to deeper water so keep an eye on your depth. You should allow yourself plenty of time though as you’ll no doubt be entertained by the many Parrot Fish waiting for you under the boat!!!
REMEMBER.... THE REEF IS FRAGILE! PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH OR TREAD ON LIVING CORAL.
