Mercedes I, The Mercedes wreck is a boat accessible salt water dive site, located in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This dive site has an average rating of 3.69 out of 5 from 13 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 91-100ft/28-30m. The average visibility is 41-50ft/12-15m.

The most famous of Ft. Lauderdale’s wrecks is the 198-foot with a 30.6’ beam in 97’ freighter Mercedes I was a merchant ship built in 1952 in Hamburg, Germany. She received national attention, when on Thanksgiving Day in 1984 during a storm, she lost her anchorage and ran aground against a seawall of an exclusive Palm Beach mansion next to the Kennedy compound.

Nice wreck. The first time I was at the Mercedes the current was very strong (surface and bottom). Next time there was almost no current.

I went scuba diving here on 10/2/2013. Average viz: 51-60ft/16-18m. Water temp: 81-85°F/27-29°C.

On a pretty clear day this wreck is outstanding. Lots of fish and places to look into. Other small reef patches within swimming distance of the wreck.

Pretty nice dive but you want to go in spring-summer.
