This could be done from shore but you would have to go through Silver Lake Sand Dunes State Park on a quad or 4x4 with sand tires - and then it would be a 100 yard plus swim out.
The Novadoc was a 252 foot bulk freighter that sank in the Armistice Day storm in 1940 within hours of the Minch sinking. The Novadoc sits in 12 to 15 feet of water mostly burried in shifting sands but the bow and stern sections come withing several feet of the surface. this also makes it Great for snorkeling.
