Russalka or русалка is a boat accessible salt water dive site, located in Estonia. The maximum depth is over 150ft/46m. The average visibility is 26-30ft/8-9m.
Location is approx.
The flagship of Czar Nicholas II’s navy, the Russalka mysteriously vanished in 1893. Apparently defying gravity and physics, it seems to have sunk vertically and now stands upright in the ice-cold waters off Estonia covered in fishing net. The Sea Hunters explore this odd wreck, perhaps the best-preserved example of a sunken ironclad because the water is too cold for the wood eating worms.
In spring 2003, a joint project was launched by the Estonian Maritime Museum and the commercial diving company Tuukritööde OÜ with the aim of finding Rusalka which had sunk 110 years earlier. On 22 July 2003 the wreck of the Russalka was located in the Gulf of Finland, 25 kilometers (16 mi) south of Helsinki. Bottom is 243’, the wreck rises 108’
