Situated off the scenic mountain coast of Fujairah, lies one of the East Coast’s most-loved dive sites. Sharm Rocks (also known as 3 Sisters, or 3 Pinnacles) is named after three rocky outcrops that break the surface in front of the picturesque fishing village of Al Sharm. Beneath the waves, this iconic trio of pinnacles are adorned in a colourful array of hard and soft corals providing a vibrant habitat for an abundance of marine life. Large shoals of tropical reef fish make for a vibrant and lively backdrop - fusiliers, sergeants, snappers, parrotfish, butterflyfish, batfish and a whole host of other rainbow critters are just some of the species that abound here. Larger fauna such as turtles are easily encountered at this site - both Green and Hawksbill sea turtle frequent the reef and its perimeter, along with stingrays (on the sandy outskirts) and the occasional black-tip reef shark. It is not unheard of for lucky divers to even encounter whale sharks in these waters during the warmer months. Sharm’s local popularity is likely because it can cater for every level of diver and their interests –there truly is something for everyone, even the snorkelers.
Underwater photographers will be grateful for the multitude of colourful and charismatic species on display here; with macro subjects such as nudibranchs, shrimps, gobies and seahorses - just to name a few. The combination of reef, rock pinnacle and sandy bottom supports a staggering diversity of life; divers can expect to see many of the usual suspects - including lionfish, scorpionfish, moray eels, jack fish, box fish and even passing pelagics such as barracuda and queenfish.
