Mahukona is a shore accessible salt water dive site, located in Big Island, HI. This dive site has an average rating of 3.75 out of 5 from 4 scuba divers. The average visibility is 61-70ft/19-21m.

Mahukona is an excellent dive for those who have a few dives under their belt. The entry is very easy, the parking is good, and there is a hot water shower to alleviate the chills of an hour long dive (the shower pipe runs over the lava, and is heated by the Sun very nice!). Since this is still used as a small boat harbor, a dive flag is recommended, as always. The bay is also an old dock at the parking area complete with a ladder for entry.

Club Dive for Kohala Divers Dive Club. Great shore dive site with easy entry and exit. The giant chains are great navigation aids. The remains of the wreck of the Kiluea and scattered train parts abound on the bottom. manta came into the bay in the afternoon. Octopi, nudibranches, nice coral and sand bottom. Some sand dollars were seen, rare for hawaii. Lots of yellow tang. There was a large school there by the ladder when we arrived the whole area was golden.
