Just wanted to give a shout out to DAN. I recently experienced my first bout of acute Pericarditis (heart sac inflammation). Went to see my new Cardiologist - never had one before - and was placed on an antinflammitory for two weeks, then told by the Cardiologist that I should be good to go. I became a little concerned because I was scheduled to go to North Carolina on day 15 of the recovery period for three days of deep diving and long boat rides.

Now I have been a member of DAN for about 5 years. Never called them before. Never needed to. I thought - I have been paying for years - why not give them a call and run this by them, especially with a series of deep dives so close to the episode. Unfortunately for me and my trip - they did not like the story that I told them. They quickly referred me to a Dive Doc here and after one call - I had an appointment set within two hours. Long story short - this is not the right time for me to do the trip. DAN and their volunteer doctor were extremely quick, helpful and eager for me to be able to return to the water safely and at the right time. In hindsight, I am glad I made the call. It was not an emergency but it may well have prevented one!

So how long do you have to be out of the water?

Three weeks of solid rest. Then a gradual increase in cardiac exersion for the next week - which is gonna be tough for me as I am an avid runner. After that if I experience no pain, its back to full speed.

Good to hear they took care of you. I’m a member as well, it seems like cheap insurance for the level of coverage and knowledge provided.
