How did the diving work out for you? I’m curious to know, as I’ve also been considering a trip to the straits. :)

So I talked to a couple shops, and the general feeling was they pretty much wrap up the season around the end of Sept. We were planning to go in early Oct and didn’t find anybody planning charters that late. I’m thinking of trying again next spring...

Interesting. Around the Chicago/Milwaukee areas, the diving season runs through early to mid-November and some of my best dives have been late season outings with near 100’ visibility offshore. Check windycitydiving.net or search "Dive Right In Scuba Charters". Jim at Windy City Diving is my preferred route to go, but you have to bring your own tanks and weights. DRIS I believe gives you the option to charter with or without gear rentals.

Thanks for the tip. I think were I was looking (Mackinac Preserve area) used moorings to protect the wrecks, and they take them in / out seasonally. If I get another chance to head west soon I’ll try Windy City.
