Gear bag

Hi! I am recently AOW certified - and finally buying my own equipment. Need suggestions for a travel bag. I’m doing some dives coming up in ports my cruise is going to and want to be able to bring some of my own equipment. I don’t want a full out travel bag though. I was thinking a StahlSac Bonaire backpack but wanted additional suggestions too before I made my final decision. As of right now I have a BC (Zeagle Zena), fins/mask, computer. I do not have a full wetsuit and likely won’t get one any time soon and will just rent as I don’t do many dives where the water is less than 80 anyways, so as long as it fits what I have easily then I’m good with that.

If you ever plan to do liveaboards you’ll need something that folds down to stow. I went with a Helium rolling duffle bag
It was the lightest I could find which I needed to do because when coming home the gear was damp and weighs more sometimes putting me over the airline limit

The Stahlsac Bonaire would be a good option for what you’re looking for. My wife has an Akona mesh bag that has wheels, so it can still be rolled up and is great as you accrue more gear up to a full set. I use a Mares Cruise mesh bag that has lasted me 8 years now, no wheels though so I am very jealous of my wife when I’m lugging my gear.

Carrying my two-month-old open water, I have a mesh bag that I would never check as luggage. I too need a good travel bag and look forward to hearing what you choose.

Congratulations on earning your Advanced Open Water certification! Purchasing your own SCUBA diving equipment is a significant step towards enhancing your diving experience. When selecting a travel bag for your diving gear, consider the following factors:

Size and Capacity: Look for a travel bag that is spacious enough to accommodate all your essential diving equipment, including your regulator, BCD, wetsuit, mask, fins, dive computer, and accessories. Ensure it has multiple compartments and pockets for organized storage.

Portability and Weight: Opt for a lightweight and portable travel bag that is easy to carry and transport, especially if you’ll be moving around frequently during your cruise. Consider bags with wheels and retractable handles for added convenience.

Durability and Protection: Choose a travel bag made from durable, water-resistant materials that can withstand the rigors of travel and protect your diving gear from damage. Look for reinforced stitching, padded compartments, and sturdy zippers for added protection.

Versatility and Functionality: Select a travel bag that offers versatility and functionality, allowing you to customize the storage layout to suit your needs. Consider bags with adjustable straps, removable dividers, and convertible designs that can accommodate different types of gear.

Security Features: Ensure your travel bag has reliable security features, such as lockable zippers or TSA-approved locks, to keep your equipment safe and secure during travel and storage.

Airline Compatibility: If you plan to bring your diving gear on flights, check the airline’s baggage policies and ensure your travel bag complies with size and weight restrictions for carry-on or checked baggage. Adventure scuba Diving bali
