I was wondering if there is special training for a river dive. The river I want to dive is the Deleware river. The spot is very shallow.

No matter where you dive on the river there will be current so you need to plan your exit before you enter.

There will be boat traffic so you’ll need a flag.

Below Bristol the viz sucks, above it’s just green and limited.

So where is this secret shallow spot? :)

What is very shallow? What kind of speed in the current are we looking at. You’ll need more weight and some kind of river stick. I use an old large Phillips screw driver with a hole in the handle for a lanyard. Typically the current will be slightly slower near the bottom or closer to shore depending on the river topography. If there isn’t an exit down river to use I’ll work my way upstream closer to shore then drift back down to where I entered. The best thing to do is to see if you can get hooked up with somebody that may have dove the area or has more experience.

There are no dive sites listed near there so no prior knowledge to work with :( I haven’t even been on that stretch of the river with a canoe. The good news is there have been work boats in that area for a couple hundred years so who knows what you might find :) LA

I snorkeled around Frenchtown area last summer scouting out dive spots.
Good vis.
We climbed on our kayaks for the rapids.
Fun but watch the current the big rocks come up quickly.
Plan around —-no rain for awhile, lower flow and better vis.

I would be happy to join a dive.
I suggest scout with kayaks/ canoes and snorkel, one dive up one diver down.
Bring non diver friends to join the drift.

Have boat, will travel :) This would require a lift back to entry point to retrieve trailer and I assume this would be after the water warms up a bit. LA

The water temps are not too bad now but the flow is up.
Let’s wait till the flow slows down.
The Ocean is cleaning up for the weekend.
