Yes, I feel your pain...Lol... I was born and raised in NY, and currently live here again, but I learned to dive when I was living in the tropics. I needed to adapt to cold water diving, rather than the other way around. I was diving for a living here for a while and a drysuit was a necessary evil. I really don’t like diving dry, but I will when its necessary. I am actually going to purchase a semi-dry for the first time to try out in cold, but not freezing water (40’s 50’s). I have a trip planned for Scotland next year and it involves a lot of surface swimming...not too fun in a drysuit. Its good that you already have the drysuit training. I think its much easier learning to dive in our harsh environment and then "adapting" to the tropics...Lol! You tend to get spoiled though. You are lucky to be on the east coast for our proximity to the Caribbean, and the good diving opportunities that is has to offer. You mentioned the Bahamas, which offers numerous high energy encounters for reasonable prices. Many good choices to be had. Belize, Honduras and Mexico are excellent choices as well, and very economical. You should venture out to the pacific when you get an opportunity as well. The area around the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia offer what I consider to be the best diving in the world. Its more costly to get there, but well worth it in the end. Good luck choosing your next destination. If you need any help or advice feel free to ask. I’d be happy to help if I can.

You should head down to South Georgia Island and Antarctica. I just got back from my second trip there in less than a year. I saw seven different species of penguins this time around. Literally, hundreds of thousands of them! Find a trip that offers diving if you’re really adventurous. I dove there the first time I went, last March, but opted for the land only trip the second time around, in order to see more places. You’ll have to get some dry suit diving under your belt first though. I used Dutch Springs a lot to do some dry suit dives after about 6 years of wetsuits only.

Thanks for the info ... I have been in the dry suit and have had that experience. It can be cumbersome getting into all that gear! It was definitely interesting getting used to a dry suit and keeping the air out of your feet lol. I didn’t love it and you have to be careful the neck is not too tight. I had a headache all day. But I learned I’m not much of a cold water diver. Unfortunately, living in the north east that doesn’t leave you with many options :)
