If you like diving with Sea Lions Bird Island (out of Rocky Point(Puerto Penasco)) offers a much larger population of them. Many times they seem to be swimming around like a fish bait ball. The best and only real dive shop in town is Sun and Fun also known as Aquatic Adventures they operate their own dive boat the Serenas De La Noches. It’s a comfortable well run boat that seems to continually be renovated for diving improvement. For Arizona divers that plan on making use of it’s services regularly you can get discounts on trip by joining AZ-DiveBuddies Scuba Divers Club in Mesa. If you take 5 trips a year you’ll make back the membership fee without even using the other club programs which are all designed to save divers money. It’s a great club which can actually save an active member diver many times the club fees each year. Club Members also get key-man pricing on gear purchases at Aquatic Adventures by showing their valid membership ID. (also needed for trip discounts) At only 3 hour away from the Phoenix area this is a the quickest saltwater dive trip available to the majority of AZ divers.

San Pedro Island, about an hour and fifteen minute boat ride from San Carlos. Island is uninhabited with lots of sea lions, eels, yellowtail, and occasional hammerhead sitings. No hammerheads on my trip, tho!
