catastrophic dive-rite wing bladder failure, won’t warranty

It is the valve for the low pressure inflator hose. Bought the dual rec wing in 2008, used it for about 10 dives with twin steel 95s and it was to heavy for the shore entries in Beaver Lake, AR. so shipped it to Philippines for when I vacationed and retired to in 2011. Used few time here from boat decided to set it up as single tank. About 30 dives on it since last September before failure last week on dive charter boat. Been on same boat & entry position for 4 days with no problems. All of the area that remains of the molding together is hard, brittle and cracked.

This is a prime example of why paying extra money for warranties or insurance is not always the best idea. A lot of companies will use fine print to weasel their way out of anything.

I have Dive Rites Trek Wing BC with steel backplates and have done 100+ dives with no problem...maybe just a lemon for you, or possibly dryrot if stored in heat...mine stays in air conditioned closet when not in use.

The dual bladder inflator molding is fine and I salvaged 3rd dive on the charter that day by switching to it. Was nice to have a spare BC built into one cover (dual rec wing). The plastic flange that the inflator screws to is what was cracked and separated/delaminated from the bladder.

I apparently caught my lower dump on something and did the same kind of damage, Deep Sea Supply had me return the wing for repair which was a lot le$$ than buying a new bladder :)
Damaged my brand H cold water wing somehow, looked like a knife cut but Mike Nelson wasn’t around. Brand H does not believe in repairs, that wouldn’t be DIR! My repairs to it using bicycle tube patches and a lot of AquaSeal have held for years now :)

This bladder has less than 50 dives on it and the failure is from normal usage. It failed during a roll in entry and dive-rite will not warranty it as they insist the failure is due to trama. I was on a charter in the Philippines with another
divebuddy.com
member when the failure occurred. Weights were dumped due to time it took the charter boat to return to us after staggered entry of other divers in a 6 knot current near Ticao Island.

Trauma, what type of trauma? Is that the valve for the low pressure inflator hose OR a pressure relief valve?
