I have been a diver since 1984, but I am out of practice, and looking for dive buddies to help me get back up to my previous skill level. I just moved to the Rochester area, and I am looking for people who can show me what the area has to offer.

Belews is not a good spot for diving. Too much boat traffic and poor vis and nothing to see.

However, there are a couple of very good quarries. Bluestone Quarry charges about $20 to get in. They have showers, air fills and even a tram to haul your gear around for you.

There is also the PRDA www.ncprda.org they have 3 private quarries. 1 in Blanch, NC, 1 in Salisbury and 1 in lake Norman. It costs about $80 per year for unlimited diving in all 3 quarries. Blanch and Lake Norman Quarry have Paddle fish. This is the only place in the state where you can see these weird fish. Since you are in Jamestown the Salisbury quarry and Bluestone will be your best two options.

Diving off the coast is excellent as well. NC is the wreck diving capital of the east coast. Many of the dives off the coast are in Caribbean blue water with tropical fish.

There is also an informal dive club that meets for dinner on the last wednesday or thursday of the month at Coopers Ale House on West Market St in Greensboro. Most of the divers who go to dinner are VERY active divers who dive the quarries 52 weeks a year
