They are very strict as to how many people are allowed to dive on the island. Once, our group opted to dive elsewhere because too many divers showed up. We were happy to muck dive on Kapalai Island instead. All in all, I think that Sipadan is fine, but you can go the same distance and find better diving elsewhere. If you go to Indonesia to the north end of Sulawesi Island, you can go to Bunaken Island or Lembeh and see SO MUCH MORE!! The travel time is about the same, but so much more variation in what you see. PNG also has better diving, although it`s a bit more expensive to dive there. HEY!! you want a neat trip? We are going to PNG to do some exploratory diving on the south shore of New Britain Island. We will be looking for the next hot diving spots! We will be on the boat for two 10 day trips back to back. A bit pricey but what fun! Come with us!!
