Sealife cameras and strobes?

I have a DC 1200. I want to get a strobe for it. However, can you use
another brand of strobe with a fiber optic cable outside of Sealife
brand on this camera. Reason I am asking is because on the Sealife 961 strobe
it comes with this circular piece that goes around the lens which holds
the fiber optic cable in place. I can’t seem to find this where you can
buy this piece separately. Anyone ever run into this problem or know
of any ways around it?

Hello,

I always contact Blue Water Photo Store as they are great at helping to build on to your existing equipment with compatible connectors etc. they are great!

Contact Scott Gietler (scott@bluewaterphotostore.com from www.bluewaterphotostore.com) who will happily advise on what will fit with your existing equipment.

The Sealife DC1400 comes with the flash link adapter (that circular piece you mentioned). The 1400 model is close to the 1200 so I would call Sealife and check if the adapter would fit on the DC1200 or not. For cameras that doesn’t have the flash link adapter, the flash link cable you purchase usually comes with an adhesive pad that you can attach the cable and glue it onto the camera housing at the flash port. And yes, you can use any strobe that accept flash link cable. I’m using the DC1400 with an Intova ISS 4000 strobe and they work great.

Hope that helps :)

Actually it’s yes and no. Yes you can use any strobe that you can connect fiber optic link to, but you also have to be careful with camera configuration. How many pre-flashes (ones used to focus) does it take if any and can strobe be configured to fire up on the actual photo taking one. For example I have S&S YS27 strobe which can fire on 1st or second flash. If my camera would make a picture on 3rd flash after 2 "focusing" ones, than it would not work even if the fiber optic link would fit.
