Early 2013 Dives catches the worlds largest creature, and good times 1-19-2013 Redondo Beach, CalifoHeading out to some Palos Verdes giant kelp dives on a Saturday morning, DiverCity’s path crosses blue whales feeding on krill in the mix of thousands of wild dolphin pods Crazy dolphins
and the local sea lion stars wanting to get in some stage time. The dives ended up being near the Avalon in pretty cool waters of 54 degrees on the surface with not any noticable thermocline down to 60′ deep. Solitary pairs of whales were within whale lengths of us at the out edges of the kelp. Hoping to catch a image glimps of them didn’t work out.

The water was filled with life. Fish everywhere. Viz was a good 20′ in hazy cold water look. Some large swells interupted the lake flat Santa Monica Bay waters to make a noticable change in the bottom conditions.

We’re planning to go back in to deeper wreck survey dives next weekend of the 26th of January, for volunteer survey/data collection dives out of Marina del Rey about The Goby captained by Adam C. James! We have spots for the first 2 message request!
