Japanese Seaplane is a shore accessible salt water dive site, located in Guam, Guam. This dive site has an average rating of 4.00 out of 5 from 8 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 81-90ft/25-27m. The average visibility is 36-40ft/11-12m.
This is an easy beach dive, and offers both a pleasant reef and interesting wrecks.To get to the site, you must have access to the Naval Base. Once on the base, follow the main road until it curves left just past Sumay Cove. Instead of following the curve, continue straight along the older road. There is a sign that says “Japanese Sea Planes.” Follow the road until you see two rusted pier pilings and a small parking area. Park at the eastern pier and enter the water there. Swim over to the western pier and head directly out from it. Descend to about 60 feet and you will find a cable heading into the harbor. Follow the cable down to about 85 feet, where you will find the plane. Once you have explored the plane, gradually ascend to about 30 feet and follow the reefline east. You will pass a beautiful carpet anemone and a large metal box-like structure, which is approximately in front of the eastern pier. From the box, follow the reefline and you will find a plane’s wing and cockpit. A pontoon lies at about 60 feet below, and the engine can be found much deeper. Head west to about 12 feet, where you will find a huge anemone colony with brightly-colored clownfish. You should end your dive back on the beach where you began.
