It all depends on your skill level and expectations... If you’re a competent diver and going with someone that knows the ropes so to speak, I think you will enjoy it. It’s basically running the current from the exhaust ducts from the power plant. You enter the concrete (building looking thing) through the side window/opening. You will swim over to the side window/opening above the exhaust vent and position yourself at the edge... and when you’re ready, pull yourself over the edge and head straight down (@ 10-15 or so feet) kicking as hard as you can to get the full effect of the water blast. There is a long concrete pad (much like a driveway) that runs out @ 150 so... at the end of the concrete there is a rope strung across (where the concrete meets the rocks) that you can grab and just hang on and enjoy the current!!! You just repeat as many times as you care too. If you get adventurous, you can try and craw down between the exhaust vents using the column to get the full effect. The water is warm and you can tell when you have gone too far to one side or the other by the temp... The fish can be plentiful and of good size enjoying the warm water as well. Take some hot chocolate with you to enjoy during the break... I think its a cool experience and something to do on a cold day or a not-so-cold day! Yeah, pretty much everything lsorenson said, except in order to do the rope at the end of the exhaust port, you have to go down swim down around the rocks to grab it. And you have to be careful to grab it at that. The current coming from the exhaust is simply too strong to just grab it otherwise. If you miss the rope and get into the current, you’re going for a ride. Well, you are anyway, except by grabbing the rope you get to control when. Just keep your head down before letting go. You will probably find all sorts of dive equipment, particularly masks, snorkels, and other items like that that have been ripped off other divers by the strong current. You will have to charter a pontoon boat to go to the Hot Hole because it is not accessible from the road. My buddies and I went out with Bill at Lake Jocassee Dive Shop and he was our dive guide. Last winter, it cost $40 per person which included either 2 tanks or 2 refills for you own tanks. We had a great time, but be warned...it is a workout. I was sore for 2 or 3 days afterward, but it will depend on your general physical shape as to what degree it will affect you. I would like to do it again sometime.
