First, the site is too cumbersome to update Dive so my profile will probably say 53 forever but I just passed 200 in June 2019 after a three-year sabbatical during stage four cancer treatments. Diving is definitely different now from the anatomy changes and collateral damage of radiation, but, hey, I’m alive. I have to drink water (under water) [try that sometime] because saliva glands don’t function well anymore, but it makes for a good laugh with dive buddies. And Eustachian tube damage forces me to constantly watch my SPG because my ears can’t tell much now.
So, I Started diving in 1972 ...YMCA (SD), then Life happened when I graduated HS early and I forgot all about diving.
After a few brief tries to get it going again in 85, 93 (never lasting more than a year or two) and 2 trips in 04, I found a few friends through dive clubs and shops (now that we have internet) and went back to get OW Cert through NAUI in 2105 and just signed up for the EAN course.
So, I feel like I’m starting over, Again... yet, not really a beginner, Again. I am comfortable at just about any depth (when it’s warm) but there is nothing wrong with 30’-50’ dives. Learning/Education is always on
AutoRenewal.
I hope to find a few good dive friends/buddies to stay in it the rest of my life this time. I don’t live in the Caribbean and while I would rather dive blue waters it seems the lakes are closer and I want to dive more that 1 or 2 times a year. So I guess it’s into the Muck... Aquarena Springs and Balmorhea I hear are nice lakes (or ponds).
Recently met a few SSI divers (instructors) in Weatherford, TX. - Mike, Yvonne and Brian (
MYScubaShopTexas ) really great people and a lot of fun.
So now that I’ve replaced all my gear (Again), it’s time to make up for lost time.
No long list of Certs but am YMCA (SD), NAUI (OW), Nitrox Diver (NAUI) and CPR/AED (2014).
UPDATE: Ok, Well, that sort of changed the last year and a half: After getting AOW then DM, I’m now Dive Control Specialist (SSI) or Assistant Instructor, so if you’ve got some skills you need to brush up on and advanced classes you’ld like to take, send me a message.
I’m a little goofy at times and adventurous but Always a more than Safe Diver. I won’t let anything happen to You and I SURE won’t let anything happen to Me. If you notice a hole in my box, that’s so I can get outside to THINK. Let’s Just Go Dive.
