Hello, all - it has been a while. Regarding the Asthma - it continued to be a slight problem, enough to scare me out of the water except for the dive with Johanna in 4/08 and a work dive at Edmonds in 10/2009. The great news is that I stumbled upon the discovery that I have a food alergy that seems to have been causing the mild asthma. I got onboard with the elimination of all wheat from my diet - part as a what is currently a popular diet and part as taking the author of Wheatbellly at his word regarding what he states in his book. I eliminated all wheat from my diet in October of 2012 and within 2 weeks I noticed huge changes in the way my body reacts to excercise and also the complete remission of the asthma condition. If you know anything about asthma, you know that the asthma-afflicted use a flow meter to test the rate that they can exhale air. My readings rose over significantly (100 L/min) within a few weeks. Since October, the readings have risen 160 L/m since before the wheat elimination. So my readings went from 550-ish L/m to 710 L/m, which is a consistent reading. 655 L/m is considered to be normal for a healthy person of my age. To shorten the story, I am medically cleared to dive so I am hoping to begin again soon.

I am trying to ease back in with some shore diving and I have some vacation that I need to use or lose, so I am hoping to lose the dry-suit and do some warm water shore diving. Actually I am trying to find a dive buddy for shore-diving in Bonaire some time in April or May. I will be traveling alone, though if anyone knows of any clubs that are going and that will accept a single traveler then please do let me know. Does not have to be Bonaire, it is just that with the desire to shore dive and having read that Bonaire is the best shore diving destination (?) that is where I am planning to go. I have a few leads so maybe this will work out.

Its good to hear you are getting back into diving. I have never heard that about asthma and wheat, very interesting. Glad you are doing better.
